Making Time to Take Time
A longtime dream of mine has just been realized – to host(ess) a retreat for a few select women, where we could just BE – enjoy peaceful surroundings and each other’s company. This past summer, in talking to a dear friend, who had the idea for a retreat, but not the place, we were able to merge the two dreams, then fine tune and plan it, until it became reality.
The first “Share Your Gift” retreat was a resounding success. Originally, we planned on having eight participants and in the end we were six. We all agreed it was the PERFECT number. Funny how things work out that way. Starting with a Values Assessment to learn more about ourselves and each other, we moved on to allow each participant to have the speaker’s chair for at least one hour to present whatever they wanted – themselves, their business – a combo of the two. Adaptability and going with the flow seemed to be universal qualities within this group, which made our relaxed handling of the “agenda” acceptable to all. Many “aha moments” took place and no phony “good cheer”. Each participant was authentic and genuinely loving towards each other.
We incorporated play time, which is so important in the lives of busy women, juggling a multitude of tasks in the day to day. We each walked away invigorated and inspired and this will be a tradition – the first of many such gatherings. It is a small touch, but one that will resonate through the participants and all those they come in contact with over the coming days, weeks, months and years. We will be reminded of our time together and the lessons learned. Little things that will make a difference in our lives.
Gatherings of hundreds are not always necessary to effect positive change.
The ripple effect of the “Power of One” – one strong woman committed to being the best she can be – can touch millions!
