What’s Holding You Back?
Do you have the perfect business, that you are passionate about and yet, you’re stuck, and not thriving in the way that you should?
Do you have relationships that are more challenging than pleasurable and causing you concern?
Is it possible that you are getting in your own way? Do you listen to and learn from the lessons that reveal themselves to you each and every day?
What’s Holding You Back is the title of a book by Speaker/Trainer Sam Horn and is subtitled “Thirty Days to Having the Courage and Confidence to Do What You Want, Meet Whom You Want and Go Where You Want”. To me, it is a little bible of all the things that I have been learning over the last 19 years, since I stepped out of my Stay-At-Home Mom role and into the role of Entrepreneur. My business partners and I have always joked that our company pays us for self-improvement and it is so true, because, to be entrepreneurs, we must develop certain skills that, quite naturally, improve us as human beings. Being paid to improve is a really nice bonus!!
Others have taught the same principles that Sam Horn is teaching, but never have I found a book that deals with entrepreneurial skill, as well as personal/human relationship skill in such a palatable and easy to read format. It is set out as a 30 day plan, so seems an appropriate thing to recommend at the beginning of a new month and should be mandatory reading for anyone looking to improve themselves in these two key areas.
I believe that we should always be looking for the nuggets, in whatever information comes our way, regardless of whether we have heard it before. Whenever someone listens to a speaker or attends an event and then says, “Oh, I heard all that before. I didn’t learn anything new”, it raises a very big “red flag” for me. I wonder about the ability of that person to be truly successful, if they fail to see what is new in the old. No matter who or what is crossing our path in life, there is a lesson to be learned. It’s what we do with those lessons that determines who we are and who we will become.
What is challenging you right now? Have you taken the time to think about it objectively and look for the help you need to overcome the challenge or work through it? Or are you feeling overwhelmed and letting it suck your energy away? Believe me, help is at the ready, if you are willing to reach out and take it.
I saw a bumper sticker recently that made me chuckle – “A closed mind is a wonderful thing to lose.”
I can honestly say that I have lost my mind (the closed one, that is) and it has been a wonderful thing to lose. When we open our minds to possibilities, instead of seeing obstacles at every turn, life becomes ever so much more enjoyable and we learn to appreciate the downs, as well as the ups, because each experience works together to make us who we are!
